In a small village near the forest, people warned everyone never to walk past the old banyan tree after midnight. They said a chudail lived there — a woman in white with long black hair and backward feet.
Ravi never believed such stories.
One night, after returning late from the city, he had to cross that lonely road. The wind was cold, and the tree branches moved without any breeze.
As Ravi walked past the banyan tree, he heard soft anklet sounds behind him.
Chan… chan… chan…
He turned around. No one.
He walked faster.
Again, the sound came closer.
Chan… chan… chan…
Suddenly, a sweet voice whispered, “Why are you walking alone?”
Ravi froze.
A woman in a white saree stood under the tree. Her face was hidden behind her hair.
“Can you help me get home?” she asked softly.
Ravi felt nervous but stepped closer. Then he noticed something horrifying.
Her feet were turned backwards.
Before he could scream, the woman slowly lifted her head. Her eyes were completely black, and her smile stretched unnaturally wide.
Villagers later found Ravi unconscious near the banyan tree at sunrise. His hair had turned completely white overnight.
After that day, no one in the village ever crossed that road after midnight again.
